NZFGW Branches have Public Affairs Committees, or individual members,
who keep a watching brief on key themes: education, human rights, environment
and economy. All PAC activity relates to these themes.
Key activities of PAC
- participate in regular meetings with interesting topics for discussion
- write letters and develop submissions in response to proposed Government
policy especially as identified by the National Council of Women
- share information on positive actions taken by Government and other
agencies like the new New Zealand Curriculum and the Canadian Roots
of Empathy programme developed to teach parenting skills and reduce
bullying levels in schools
- ensure that NZFGW policy resolutions are actioned
- collaborate with like-minded NGOs on special projects, such as the
Alternate CEDAW (Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
Against Women) Report
- organise public events, such as financial seminars for women, in cooperation
with other women’s organisations
- initiate and contribute to local projects, for example developing
a local teen parent unit or educating members on issues related to new
settler job-seeking.
Members of PAC keep a watchful eye on what is happening in the
community. They advocate as necessary for the welfare of women and girls.
