Young Members - Chat Groups
There has been interest from some branches to run groups outside of the
monthly meetings. Below are some suggestions for groups and how they may
be structured.
Postgraduate Chat Group
Aim: To network postgraduate women with each other for support
and encouragement. Secondary spin-off of possible membership into Federation.
| 1) |
Ask for one person in your branch - and you don't necessarily have
to be in a city with a university or polytechnic - to be the postgraduate
group coordinator. |
| 2) |
Make use of internal staff bulletins, local newspaper advertisement,
articles in the local paper. Maybe Massey would be prepared to contact
women in your area if you provided the letters and postage. |
| 3) |
Organiser arranges a monthly meeting at a time that suits people.
Preferably this would be free and beneficial to postgraduate women.
It might be a hands-on session about how to write an essay, or it
might be an interesting academic speaking about something with a wide
general interest, such as "The Changing Role of Women in New
Zealand". Advertise each month in a regular spot and also let
a wide email list know about it. |
| 4) |
Arrange in such a way that women have a chance to network and chat
afterwards. Sometimes, it may be just a case of meeting at the staff
club or for a cheap meal out one evening. |
Mothers Chat Group
Same principle as above. Requires the motivation of at least one organiser
- maybe a couple of young mothers would like to organise.
